My goal as a painter is to be “in the moment” while I work and always be open
to new approaches. I love painting en plein air and spend much of my creative
time on location. Nature has proven to be the most demanding and inspiring
teacher, so I work from life as much as possible. I am more spontaneous and
free working en plein air.
However, living in the Northeast, nature doesn’t always allow me to work
outside. During these times I move into my studio and rely on photo references,
thumbnail sketches, and notes. It is these tools that assist me in
communicating not just the subject, but my experience and interpretation of it.

The beauty and versatility of watercolor has always fascinated me…watercolor is
a magical medium. The sometimes elusive qualities and unexpected effects can be
exasperating, but also exciting. I love the challenge of a fresh piece of
paper, an idea or inspiration, and a palette of watercolors at my side!
Expressing the magic of life…. the mysteries of light, color, and shape as I
respond to the world around me brings great satisfaction.
